Constable.
The Constable of France (French: Connétable de France, from Latin comes stabuli for 'count of the stables'), as the First Officer of the Crown, was one of the original five Great Officers of the Crown of France (along withseneschal, chamberlain, butler, and chancellor) and Commander in Chief of the army. He, theoretically, asLieutenant-general of the King, outranked all the nobles and was second-in-command only to the King.
The Connétable de France was also responsible for military justice and served to regulate the Chivalry. His jurisdiction was called the connestablie. The office was established by King Philip I in 1060 with Alberic becoming the first Constable. The office was abolished in 1627 in accordance with the Edict of January 1627 byCardinal Richelieu, upon the death of François de Bonne, duc de Lesdiguières, after his conversion fromProtestantism to Catholicism in 1622. The position was replaced by the Dean of Marshals (Doyen des maréchaux), in reality the most senior Marshal of France in a strictly ceremonial role. The title Marshal General of France or more exactly "Marshal General of the King's camps and armies" (maréchal général des camps et armées du roi) was given to signify that the recipient had authority over all the French armies in the days when a Marshal governed only one army usually. This dignity was bestowed only on Marshals of France, usually when the dignity of Constable of France was unavailable or, after 1626, suppressed.
A few constables died in battle or were executed for treason, mostly for political intrigue.(Wikipedia)
I dont know alot about french history, but i beleive that the Constable of France was quite an important man at that time. He was the protector of the king, how i see it, an old fasioned PA. He wants to do what is right by his king and the people. I think in Henry V, the concept of war excites him a bit. He is constantly putting down the english, and therefore i think that he is very fond of his own country. Throughout Constables lines in the play, he brags to an extent of how France will win, and England dont have a chance. Although is is of importance, and has authority, i think by doing this, he is proving himself to the king and/or even showing off a little bit. The true constable of France was Charles I of Albret from 1402-1411.
After practising some Laban techniques in rehersal:
Direct, strong, sudden--------punch (thrust)
Indirect, strong, sudden------slash
Direct, strong, sustained-----push
Indirect, strong, sustained---wring
Direct, light, sudden----------dab
Indirect, light, sudden--------flick
Direct, light, sustained-------glide
Indirect, light, sustained-----float
Indirect, strong, sudden------slash
Direct, strong, sustained-----push
Indirect, strong, sustained---wring
Direct, light, sudden----------dab
Indirect, light, sudden--------flick
Direct, light, sustained-------glide
Indirect, light, sustained-----float
, i think that i have figured out the poisture of Constable. I chose a dab, which is Direct, Light and Sudden. I did this to portray his authority. I thought that a flick wouldnt show his importance, and a punch/slash were just too harsh for the character. I imagined him sort of marching, and dabbing each foot to the ground.
